The Cervantes Institute ✍ presented the yearbook “Spanish in the world” a few days ago, which offers interesting data on the international presence and future projections of this language.
The most notable point is the 500 million native speakers of Spanish, a figure that rises to 600 million if we add people with limited proficiency and students. We are talking about the equivalent of 7.5 percent of the world's population, which makes it the second most spoken language on the planet after Mandarin Chinese. 👲
In Europe alone, 76 million people have the ability to communicate in Spanish and there are 6 million students. 🗣 🗣
By country, the 2023 edition of the yearbook focuses on five nations: Thailand, with 10,000 Spanish speakers; Portugal, where a million people speak this language; Ukraine, with 12,000 students; Democratic Republic of the Congo, with 2,000 students and Iran, where 370 people strive to learn Spanish in the three universities where it is taught.
If you want to be one of the Spanish speakers included in the next Cervantes Institute yearbook, you are in the right place. 😊
